Notes
Pinan Shodan taught as the second kata introduces the concept of twisting the body in the opposite direction to the technique.This is evident in the first move where a left sotouke is performed as the body twists slightly to the right.
When any direction is changed the student should always look first!
Combinations
Try to practice the moves in combinations as follows:-
3,3,1(feels like a 3),1,1,1,1,1,1,1,3,3,1,2,2
Yoi
- 1.Step out to left perform left sotouke at same time as right jodanuke.
- 2.Perform left uchiuke at same time as right downward block.
- 3.Draw back left foot to stand upright and deliver left straight punch to face.(left hand side)
- 4.Step out to right perform right sotouke at same time as left jodanuke.
- 5.Perform right uchiuke at same time as left downward block.
- 6.Draw back right foot to stand upright and deliver right straight punch to face.(right hand side)
- 7.Turn 180 degrees and perform right sotouke at same time as right maegeri(frontkick)
Draw right foot in behind left and prepare hands for stalkai
Step out with left foot into stalkai(this is a good example of body twisting with technique going the opposite way!) - 8.Step right stalkai.
- 9.Step left stalkai.
- 10.Step right junzuki,right knife hand strike to chudan
- 11.Turn left 225 degress then stalkai.
- 12.Step right stalkai.
- 13.Turn 90 degrees to the right perform right stalkai
- 14.Step left stalkai.
- 15.Move right foot to the left(pointing to the rear,similar to gyakuzuki stance),at same time block using right hand sotouke jodan.
- 16.Right foot maegeri
- 17.Left Gyakuzuki
- 18.Left sotouke
- 19.Left foot maegeri
- 20.Right Gyakuzuki
- 21.Step forward (junzuki stance)perform right sotouke jodan and cover body with left hand.
- 22.Turn left 225 degrees block left gedanbaria.
- 23.Step forward junzuki right and block right jodanuke.
- 24.Turn 90 degrees to the right perform right gedan barai.
- 25.Step forward junzuki left and block left jodanuke.
